Outside and Inside

Outside and Inside

On the outside
A cold unsmiling face
People may see

But
What they do not see
Is the warm heart that lies within

On the outside
An unsociable loner
He seems to be

Nonetheless
Feel lonely at times
And cherish every friendship (though few he may have) he also does

On the outside
An intelligent know-it-all
He may sounds like

Yet
Just as confused about Life
He really is

On the outside
Rational and analytical prose
He perhaps writes

But actually
Poetry (or what resembles it)
Is still what he enjoys writing the most

Paradoxical it is
That what people are like on the inside
Can differ so much from their appearances outside

"Everyone sees what you seem to be, few touch upon what you are..." -- Niccol Machiavelli, "The Prince"
