CNA: "JI detainee Mas Selamat Kastari escapes from Singapore detention centre"!?

CNA:"JI detainee Mas Selamat Kastari escapes from Singapore detention centre"

I was watching the news just now and was amazed to hear that a Jemaah Islamiah detainee(JI) managed to escape from a local detention centre earlier today.

I don't know about you all but this case is, in my opinion, even more disturbing than the case of the NSF who sneaked out of his camp with a SAR21 rifle and ammo.

And as I was reading the above CNA article, this question popped into my mind: how exactly did the detainee manage to make his escape?

Just think about it. As already mentioned above, the detainee escaped from a local detention centre and although I do not really know much about how local detention centres operate but I suppose that they should have strict security standards.

And let's not forget that he was no ordinary detainee, he was "the leader of the Jemaah Islamiyah network" in Singapore (emphasis mine).

Bearing in mind the above, it would be reasonable to expect that tight security measures would be in effect to prevent him from escaping.

Yet, he still managed to make his escape.

How was he able to circumvent the security measures? Was there perhaps a security lapse of some form?

What's even more amazing is that the detainee did not make his escape under the cover of darkness but at 4.05 p.m., which will imply that he made his escape in broad daylight!

Furthermore, the detainee walks with a limp and yet was able to escape...

Hopefully, the local authorities will be able to capture him soon. And hopefully they will be transparent about how exactly the detainee managed to make his escape.

P.S. 28/2/2008

During today's Parliament sitting, Mr. Wong Kan Seng, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, in response to queries by MPs, talked about the escape.

As of 4.05 p.m. today, there have not been any news of the re-capturing of the JI detainee. This would mean that he has escaped and is loose for 24 hours and counting. Guess the question now which should most probably be on most people's minds, besides that of how the JI detainee managed to escape, would be: where is he?

Hmm... Guess that people are already preparing for the possibility that Singapore may not be able to re-capture the detainee.

speculation:

how can a limping high profile criminal escape??

assuming all precaution are taken, assuming all personnel involved are properly trained, assuming they carried out their duties as usu.,
assuming they have sense to run after the escapee....

the assumption is... this is simply not a normal escape, insider job? highly doubtful...

my speculation is: an armed rescue mission, skillfully crafted by his followers, guided by him over the years in detention...

If he simply walks out of an unguarded toilet and into a wooded area, it would not normally take that long to find him.

I would venture to guess that he's made contact with one of his cronies by now and they are harbouring him.

Or.. and this is entirely possible.. he never left the ISD compound and is hiding there still.

I am still wondering why the police took four hours to inform the public about his escape. and i had just read a KL newspaper article online. it mentioned that Mas Selamat might have fled to indonesia as he knew the backdoors to indonesia and bintan. and he also has some connections there.
