Departure of SM Goh and MM Lee -- a hugely symbolic move
Yesterday night, Senior Minister (SM) Goh Chok Tong and Minister Mentor (MM) Lee Kuan Yew, in a joint statement, announced that they will be resigning from Cabinet. According to the statement, they have decided to do so in order to allow Prime Minister (PM) Lee Hsien and his team of younger ministers to have a "fresh clean slate" and "to connect to and engage with this young generation in shaping the future of our Singapore".
My assessment of this decision by SM Goh and MM Lee to leave the Cabinet, should it be accepted by PM Lee, is that it is a hugely symbolic move.

Remembering the past is important but...
Remembering the past is important but these memories should not inhibit progress. And while the young may have fewer memories of the past, we are not less grateful or ignorant.
Anyway, gratitude should come naturally from someone, not expected or demanded of. And gratitude should not be equivalent to everlasting and blind support.

Where do we go from here?
Where do we go from here? Now that GE 2011 has perhaps come to a conclusion with the release of the results?
Undoubtedly, the dust will soon settle and the excitement will die down. Life will go on and we will have to return to our usual daily routines.
But it cannot be life as usual.
